April 7 , 2009 -- KALAMAZOO COLLEGE RECEIVES ARCUS FOUNDATION GRANT TO ESTABLISH A SOCIAL JUSTICE LEADERSHIP CENTER

(KALAMAZOO, Mich.) -- Kalamazoo College has received a $200,000 planning grant from the Arcus Foundation to prepare for the establishment of a social justice leadership center at the College. The grant represents a partnership between Kalamazoo College and Arcus to further their joint commitment to social justice leadership in the Kalamazoo community and beyond. (more)

October 6 , 2008 -- "CHERRY" PICKS KALAMAZOO COLLEGE, WMU AS LOCATION FOR INDEPENDENT FILM PRODUCTION

(KALAMAZOO, Mich.) A group of independent filmmakers announced today that principle photography for Cherry, a feature-length movie will be filmed on the campuses of Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Additional scenes will be filmed at various locations around the city of Kalamazoo.   Filming will begin in late October and last for approximately 24 days. (more)

June 13, 2008 -- KALAMAZOO COLLEGE JOINS POSSE FOUNDATION EFFORT TO ENROLL MULTICULTURAL TEAMS OF STUDENTS

KALAMAZOO (Mich.) – Kalamazoo College officials announced today that 50 students from Los Angeles public schools will enroll in the College through a partnership with the Posse Foundation. Kalamazoo will enroll 10 “Posse Scholars” in five consecutive academic classes, from the class of 2013’s matriculation in 2009 to class of 2017’s graduation. Posse Scholars are public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential, but come from groups that are underrepresented in American higher education and are often overlooked by traditional college selection processes. All Posse Scholars enrolling in Kalamazoo College will come from Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the public school system that serves the city of Los Angeles and many other cities and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. More than 72 percent of LAUSD’s nearly 700,000 students are Hispanic, 11.2 percent are black, and 3.7 percent are Asian. (more)

April 24, 2008 -- KALAMAZOO COLLEGE CELEBRATES 175th ANNIVERSARY

KALAMAZOO (Mich.) – Kalamazoo College officials announced today that the College will celebrate two major milestones in 2008: the 175th anniversary of its founding and the 50th anniversary of its pioneering study abroad program.
The College community will celebrate both anniversaries in a series of events held this spring and during the 2008-2009 academic year that begins in the fall. (more)

April 22, 2008 -- Kalamazoo College Receives $1 Million Grant From the Howard Hughes Medical Institute

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kalamazoo College has received a $1 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to expand its science students’ research opportunities, enhance their classroom experiences, and support their service-learning outreach to K-12 students in Kalamazoo Public Schools (KPS) and elsewhere. April 8, 2008 -- KALAMAZOO COLLEGE WILL OFFER B.A. DEGREES IN BUSINESS

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Kalamazoo College officials announced today that students pursuing business careers will soon be able to do so with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business. College faculty recently voted unanimously to add a business major to the catalog for the 2008-2009 academic year beginning in September. (more)

February 22, 2008 -- Kalamazoo College Names New Provost

KALAMAZOO, MICH – Kalamazoo College President Eileen Wilson-Oyelaran announced today that Michael A. “Mickey” McDonald, Ph.D., will become the new Provost at Kalamazoo College, effective July 1. (more)
