vs. Manchester College
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team suffered
a 27-10 loss to Manchester College on a wet Angell Field turf
on Saturday, Sept. 11. Manchester
Manchester led 9-0 early in the second quarter following
three field goals. Kalamazoo made it 9-7 just before halftime
when Nick Jones connected with Jimmy Frye for a five-yard
touchdown.
Kalamazoo went up 10-9 early in the third quarter with a
32-yard field goal by Travis Braun.
Manchester would score again late in the third quarter to
even the score at 17-17. Kalamazoo drove to the one early
in the fourth quarter, only to have a first down pass intercepted
and returned all the way to the Manchester 39. A drive later,
Manchester would kick a field goal to go up 20-10.
Two Hornet drives later saw Kalamazoo get to midfield, only
to have another pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown
to put the Spartans up for good, 27-10.
Nick Jones finished the day 34-of-57 passing for 313 yards
with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Jimmy Frye led the Hornets with 110 yards on 10 catches with
a score. Aaron Rice had 10 catches for 101 yards. John Jakubik
had seven catches for 61 yards.
Dimeko Price rushed for 37 yards on 10 carries.
Manchester passed for 188 yards and rushed for 192 yards,
and despite having a field goal attempt blocked, did not lose
a fumble or an interception.
John Heitchue, Nick Sweda and Jake Schell were each credited
with eight tackles. Heitchue had a quarterback sack. Mike
Page had seven tackles including two for lost yardage.
Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 18 at Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology.
