KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team won its final home game of the season 30-23 over Alma on Friday, Oct. 28 at Waldo Stadium.

Alma led 9-3 after the first quarter and 16-3 early in the second, but a Kalamazoo touchdown and two additional field goals by Travis Braun evened the score at 16-16 going into halftime.

The score was tied again 23-23 late in the third quarter, but Nick Jones' 27-yard touchdown run with 48 seconds left in the quarter proved to be the game-winner.

Alma had three chances to tie or win in the fourth quarter, but the Kalamazoo defense stopped them each time. The Scots advanced to the Kalamazoo 23 early in the fourth, but turned the ball over on downs following an incomplete pass on fourth down. Alma drove the Kalamazoo six-yardline on its next possession, but the Scots were again stopped short on a rushing attempt on 4th-and-1. Alma began its final possession of the game at its own 40-yardline with 1:36 left to play. The Scots advanced to the Kalamazoo 21, but a pass into the end zone on 4th-and-6 was intercepted by Adam Powers and sealed the win for Kalamazoo.

Nick Jones was 25-of-37 passing for 235 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Jones also rushed for 67 yards and the go-ahead score.

Dimeko Price rushed for 150 yards on 22 carries and had four catches for 14 yards. Erran Briggs had four carries for 36 yards.

Alex Dietrich had a team0high 10 catches for 112 yards and a 17-yard touchdown. Colin Leffert had seven catches for 71 yards and a 27-yard touchdown.

Travis Braun was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts in the first half, connecting from 30, 37, and 34 yards.

Andy Herman led the defense with nine total tackles while recovering a first-half Alma fumble at the Kalamazoo one-yardline. John Heitchue had eight tackles and a forced fumble. Ian Good and Mike Page each had seven tackles and were in on quarterback sacks. Blake Simon and Alan Mencer were also in on sacks.

Kalamazoo travels to Trine for the Hornets' final game of the 2011 season next Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
