KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team defeated
Benedictine University 58-19 at Waldo Stadium on Saturday,
Sept. 24.
Kalamazoo led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and 17-13
midway through the second quarter before scoring 14 unanswered
points to take a 31-13 lead into halftime.
The Hornets went up 45-13 early in the third quarter before
a Benedictine touchdown made it 45-19. Kalamazoo scored late
in the third and midway through the fourth to make the final,
58-19.
The Hornets put up 607 yards of total offense, the third
highest total in school history. Kalamazoo's 58 points is
the most in a game since the 1996 season.
Nick Jones was 31-of-36 passing for 329 yards with four touchdowns.
Jones also rushed for 93 yards and two scores.
Dimeko Price rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown while also
catching nine passes for 99 yards and a score.
Mikael Lott, Jimmy Frye, and Alex Dietrich also had receiving
touchdowns. Lott finished with 68 yards on six catches. Frye
had 71 yards on five catches.
Aaron McGuire played quarterback late in the game and rushed
for 43 yards and a touchdown.
John Heitchue led the defense with eight tackles and a forced
fumble. Connor Rzeznik had seven tackles. Ian Good finished
with five tackles and a sack. Adam Cares led the team with
three quarterback sacks. Brandon Casto and Thomas Tabor each
had an interception.
Kalamazoo hosts Albion College in the MIAA opener next Saturday,
Oct. 1 at Waldo Stadium.
