To equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to thrive in a diverse and increasingly complex world, we are committed to fostering a culture of lifelong learning. Our strategic focus on Learning for Life will empower students to make meaningful contributions to and connections with their communities now and as alumni.
Goals
Remove barriers to student participation in programs related to professional readiness and engagement with communities beyond K.
- Remove structural barriers to participation in experiential learning.
- Remove knowledge barriers to participation in experiential learning.
- Improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of international education at K: Engage and center first-gen students to foster awareness of and communicate the value of study abroad and away.
- Gather and analyze data relevant to first-gen students to encourage them to study abroad/away.
- Build Career Readiness of F and J visa students.
- Engage faculty and staff as collaborative partners in fostering global learning experiences for first-gen students.
Embed career and professional readiness into its culture, co-curriculum and curriculum, preparing students effectively for professional life after K.
- Embed career and professional readiness into culture, curriculum, and co-curriculum at K through collaboration with faculty, staff and student partners.
- Increase access to and participation in internships and work-based learning.
- Expand network of alumni and employers to provide mentoring, training, and entry level opportunities.
Enhance and develop programs to connect alumni to learning opportunities over their lifespan.
- Enhance the bond between Alumni and K through lifelong learning opportunities.
- Promote opportunities for alumni to become volunteers.
K will prepare students to engage with local, national and global communities throughout their lives.
- Work toward study promoting climate literacy for every K graduate.
- Provide campus-wide education on climate change beyond courses and academics.
- Enhance international education components and development to support priority students.
- Raise awareness on campus of forms of engagement with the broader Kalamazoo community.
